It is that time of year when students and educators are preparing to head back to schools and universities. We want to welcome back all students, particularly those who have decided to call the Cincinnati region home during their studies, and we hope they decide to stay after graduation.
We want to take a special moment to welcome back international students who are returning or arriving for their first semester at one of the many great universities across the region. International students add so much to the region’s cultural vibrancy and economy, and we need to do our part to ensure we can continue to be a home for global talent.
International students are a major economic driver in the region, contributing an estimated $270 million and support nearly 2,500 jobs. Ohio is a choice destination for international students, currently ranking 8th in the country with 37,000 international students studying at Ohio’s colleges and universities. International students in Ohio contributed an estimated $1.3 billion to our economy during the 2023-2024 school year.
In addition to the economic contributions, international students bring diversity of thought and innovation to the classroom, labs, and startup incubators. This innovation is demonstrated by the entrepreneurial efforts of many international students who founded startups in the region. They also fill critical roles in STEM fields and other disciplines, helping to strengthen the region’s workforce, innovation, and development.
It is also a time of celebration. Playhouse in the Park, during their Hues Community Night, will celebrate the work of the African Professionals Network (APNET), which recently held their very successful and fun AfriFest. Also, FC Cincinnati will celebrate Black Heritage Night. APNET, Paloozanoire, Cincinnati Compass, and others are working to make it a special night.
Of course, we want to invite you to our annual event. We have confirmed the chefs and performances for the evening. Join us September 12th at Cincinnati Music Hall: Cincinnati Compass Presents Cincinnati Rhythm. We are happy to announce that we will be joined by the Cultural Centre of India, Ijo Ugo, and Son del Caribe, providing interactive and joyful entertainment. The members of Findlay Kitchen joining us this year are: Rocky’s Home Flavor, the Arepa Place, Lotus Street Food, Jomun, Jay’s Nyam & Jam, and Sabor Alaniz. Get your tickets early, as we anticipate it selling out.
