We are one month away from our annual event, Cincinnati Rhythm, and can’t wait to celebrate with you in the rotunda of the iconic Cincinnati Museum Center. Come celebrate the economic, social, civic, and cultural contributions of immigrant and refugee communities across the region. You’ll enjoy music and dance with food from six members of Findlay Kitchen, while engaging in conversations with old friends and new neighbors. It is truly a lively, vibrant event showcasing the beauty of diversity and the power of community here in the region. We’ll see you there Friday, September 13th at 6 p.m.
The celebrations continue as Friday, September 13th is the kickoff of National Welcoming Week and the beginning festivities leading up to the 2024 Fotofocus Biennial: backstories. More to come on that next month, but we want to share that we have partnered with Summermusik (Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra), A Picture’s Worth, Maketank Inc, Kentucky Refugee Ministries, and Norwood Together under the umbrella of Welcome CincyNKY 2024. There will be a month-long series of events and celebrations to lift up the stories and voices of immigrant and refugee communities across the region in southwest Ohio and northern Kentucky. Leaders from the Cincinnati Compass Community Council have worked together with local artists – MDC Design Studio and HATSUE – to share their journeys, their leadership, and their vision for a more vibrant, inclusive region in the exhibition – Still Moving.
Also this month, it is that time of year when students and educators return to campus. A key strength of our region is the quality educational institutions that make it a choice destination and a hub for innovation and talent development. As we embark on this new academic year, let's celebrate the resilience and dedication of our students, educators, and institutions. Let’s show up to support our students and work to ensure we retain talent here in the region.
"Back to school" is also a reminder of the invaluable contributions of international students. These students bring a wealth of cultural diversity and different perspectives that enrich our classrooms and communities. Beyond the classroom, international students play a significant economic role. They contribute millions of dollars to the regional economy through tuition and spending, add to the regional cultural vibrancy, and drive innovation and growth. Their presence supports local businesses, creates jobs through entrepreneurship, and fosters international collaboration and understanding.
To our international students, we extend a special welcome. Your contributions go beyond academic achievements; you are vital to the vibrancy and economic health of our educational institutions and communities. Together, we create a dynamic and inclusive environment where learning and cultural exchange thrive.
Here’s to a successful and enriching academic year ahead!

A Picture's Worth |
A Picture's Worth is a training and service-providing nonprofit that both champions and helps spark narrative change. We support individuals and communities in sharing accurate, strengths-based narratives. In our community projects, each of those narratives is sparked by an individual image and audio story. Our story gathering methodology is built upon years of researching and practicing restorative media and systems change. We believe that all narratives shift based upon who is placed in the center of them. We intentionally work alongside community members to elicit narratives that center them and honor their expertise and strengths as well as their challenges. By doing so, we do the critical work of deepening media coverage beyond headlines and stereotypes. |
