Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 7, 2026

Cincinnati Compass (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website cincinnaticompass.org (the “Site”). Cincinnati Compass is a regional collaborative that connects immigrants and internationals in Greater Cincinnati with resources, services, and community. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through the Site, how we use it, whom we share it with, and the choices you have.

Information We Collect

Information you give us

When you fill out a form on the Site — for example to contact us, join our network, suggest a resource, or register interest in an event — we collect the information you enter, which may include your name, email address, phone number, organization, and the details of your request.

Information collected automatically

Our web server keeps standard technical logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, and timestamps) for security and troubleshooting. Beyond that, the Site sets no analytics or advertising cookies unless you consent to them through our cookie banner, as described in the next section.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

On your first visit, a consent banner asks whether we may use optional cookies. The banner stays visible until you make a choice, and nothing in the optional categories loads before you opt in:

  • Strictly necessary. Required for the Site to function and stay secure: the website platform (WordPress and Elementor), the cookie-consent tool itself (which records your choice), our forms and their spam protection (Google reCAPTCHA), login security, and the GTranslate translation tool that makes the Site available in multiple languages (it stores your language preference in a cookie). These are always active.
  • Analytics. Google Analytics 4 helps us understand how visitors use the Site so we can improve it. It loads only after you opt in.

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link in the footer of every page, which reopens the consent preferences. We also honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal: if your browser sends it, opt-out is applied automatically.

Translation

The Site can be viewed in several languages through GTranslate, which uses Google Translate to translate pages in your browser. When you choose a language, a cookie remembers your preference, and the text of the pages you visit is sent to Google’s translation service so it can be translated. Google’s handling of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

Analytics

With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 (Google LLC) to compile aggregate statistics about how the Site is used — pages visited, approximate location at city level, device type, and how visitors arrive at the Site. We use these statistics to improve the Site. Google’s use of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

Events, Podcast, and External Links

Our events calendar runs on our own server. Some event listings link to registration pages on Eventbrite or other external platforms; when you follow such a link you leave the Site and that platform’s own privacy policy applies. Episodes of our podcast are played through the Site’s built-in player. The Site also links to our profiles on Facebook, X (Twitter), and LinkedIn, and to the websites of partner organizations; those sites operate under their own privacy policies.

Other Service Providers

We use a small number of additional providers to operate the Site: our hosting provider (WP Engine), a content delivery network (Cloudflare) that helps serve the Site quickly and securely, some embedded forms provided by JotForm, and email delivery services for messages the Site sends (for example, form confirmations). We share personal information with service providers only so they can perform services for us, and we do not sell your personal information for money.

Children’s Privacy

The Site is directed to adults, not to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the Site. If you believe a child has submitted personal information through the Site, please contact us and we will delete it.

Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to ask us to correct or delete it, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted advertising. You can exercise the advertising opt-out at any time with the “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link in the footer, or automatically via the Global Privacy Control signal. For any other request, contact us using the details below; we will verify your request and respond as required by applicable law. We do not discriminate against anyone for exercising a privacy right.

Data Retention and Security

We keep form submissions and correspondence for as long as we need them for the purpose they were provided, and consent records for as long as the law requires. We use appropriate technical and organizational safeguards — including HTTPS across the Site, limited administrative access, login protection, and spam filtering — but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page, and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice on the Site.
