Cincinnati Compass Newsletter | September 2024

Newsletter | Sept.12, 2024

We look forward to celebrating with you this Friday- yes, this Friday!-  at our annual event, Cincinnati Rhythm. In addition to the great food provided by members of Findlay Kitchen, there will be a mini- international market to help you stock up your kitchens, be the host with the most at your next gathering with delicious treats, or buy gifts for your friends and family. Come listen to and dance with Son del Caribe and Ijo Ugo- you’ll soon learn what a gift they are to the region’s musical culture. We will have a few more surprises the evening of the event for you to experience as we honor the recipients of this year’s awards for Rising Star, Community Leader, Business Leader, and Legacy.

Our event always happens on the first day of National Welcoming Week to kick off regional events that celebrate immigrant and refugee communities across the region. Make sure to check out Welcome CincyNKY 2024 for all the events happening across the region. During Fotofocus, we encourage you to visit the Still Moving, an exhibition celebrating leaders across the region with an immigrant background and who are members of the Compass Community Council: an organization dedicated to civic engagement and lifting up country and ethnic community-based organizations.  Leaders worked with local artists – MDC Design Studio and HATSUE- to share their journeys, their leadership, and their vision for a more vibrant, inclusive region in the exhibition. Later in the month we hope you can attend the 2024 Cincinnati Moon Festival brought to you by the Greater Cincinnati Chinese Cultural Exchange Association and Vibe Cincinnati.

Finally, September 15th is the beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month that runs until October 15th. There are many events around the region from the Hispanic Heritage Festival at Sharon Woods to the Festival de la Herencia Hispana at the Princeton High School Murals.

We hope to see you out and about as Fall settles in the region.

OPPORTUNITIES

Help Shape the Future of Low-Income Housing Funding – Your Input is Crucial!

We need your help in making a significant impact on housing and services for low-income residents in the Cincinnati area, particularly in Hamilton County. The Hamilton County's Planning and Development's Community Development Division is preparing the County Consolidated Plan for Housing and Community Development for the upcoming 5 years, 2025-2029. A survey has been launched to gather crucial information from Hamilton County residents and organizations serving these populations. The data collected will directly influence how funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is allocated.

The Goal: Collect 50,000 responses by September 30th.

What You Can Do:

1. Complete the Survey: Please take 5-7 minutes to fill out the survey. https://qualtricsxm5ndsm3kv7.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6S68F0xQKQi27C6

2. Spread the Word: Share this survey with your community members and constituents. Every response matters!

3. Assist with Access: Encourage organizations to facilitate the survey by sharing it with their clients, especially those who may not have easy access to online resources. This can include conducting verbal interviews if needed.

By contributing to this effort, you’ll help justify increased HUD funding to better meet the growing needs of our community. Your participation is vital—let's work together to ensure everyone is heard.
